About the Book:

The Hidden LibrarySometimes, the rabbit hole is deeper than expected . . .

Alice Reeve and Finn Van Brunt have tumbled into a life of secrets. Some secrets they share, such as their employment by the clandestine organization known as The Collectors’ Society. Other secrets they carry within them, fighting to keep buried the things that could change everything they think they know.

On the hunt for an elusive villain who is hell-bent on destroying legacies, Alice, Finn, and the rest of the Society are desperate to unravel the mysteries surrounding them. But the farther they spiral down this rabbit hole, the deeper they fall into secrets that will test their loyalties and pit them against enemies both new and old.

Secrets, they come to find, can reveal the deadliest of truths.

Guest Post – A question for Heather Lyons:

If the villains of the story succeeded in erasing some or all classics, what would it mean for readers today? For authors? How would our lives be different without those stories and ideas?

This is perhaps one of the integral questions of the Collectors’ Society series, and yet, while important, it’s also a bid paradoxical all at the same time. As readers have discovered, the Society itself is a secretive one. The people in the know about the truth of Timelines and books are miniscule compared to the billions (trillions? Quadrillions? Infinite amount of persons?) of ignorant souls living their lives, unaware that there are countless worlds of varying possibilities in existence all at once.

The sad fact is, the deletion of Timelines does not affect present day readers—at least in the Collectors’ Society world. To them, books are already simply books and will continue to be books. If the Timeline is deleted, the original story continues to exist, only as nothing more than a story confined to pages. To the author, it would also continue to be the same, as they have no clue that life has been breathed into their words. To the inhabitants of the Timeline, however, the consequences are grave. Their world, it is assumed, is irrevocably destroyed. Everything from the last page on (in other words, the extension of the story into a full-fledged world) ceases to exist. Lives are wiped out, histories erased, generations lost. The world becomes a smaller place, and yet in our society, in our world, it would mean nothing to the average person. And that’s one of the questions the Society has had to deal with—ought the worlds know the truth? Hysteria is a fear, for sure; change is typically difficult for any society to grasp (if history is to be taken into account). What would society do, act like, if they were to learn that they are not the only world out there? That everything they’ve known since the beginning of time was a lie, that there is more—and that the more might be radically different and foreign to the known? Would they be accepting of each other? Would there be prejudice? Fear? Conquering? War? Ideals of one world forced upon another? Colonization? Conversion? I think the Society members—and the liaisons from each Timeline—take these questions into consideration, especially as they look to their own histories and those of the worlds they inhabit. But it’s equally interesting to consider whether or not these gatekeepers, if you will, have the right to hold onto such secrets.
